Sound control in the energy sector

The energy market is constantly evolving and becoming increasingly complex. The industry, as the largest end user in the Netherlands, relies on a mix of energy sources such as gas, heat, electricity, and oil. Although there is a growing use of renewable and carbon-free sources, such as solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal, and biomass, the dependence on fossil fuels remains significant (57%).

In the Dutch energy market, approximately 53% of companies primarily focus on the production of electricity from solar, wind, and conventional energy or nuclear power plants. Furthermore, 29% of companies have the distribution of gas and electricity as their main activity. 10% primarily trade in gas and electricity, and another 5% mainly manage electricity, gas, and heat networks. The remaining companies are involved in the production and extraction of gas, oil, and heat.

Although the Netherlands is importing and exporting more energy, domestic production has been declining since 2013, mainly due to the scaling back of gas extraction in Groningen. On the other hand, the Netherlands has strong interconnections with countries like Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Norway, and the United Kingdom, which allows for the exchange of electricity.

Noise pollution in the energy transition
